Overall Dan felt the web advertising we produced worked very well. The only pointer he felt could be worked on was to utilise the acts we would be using in our MainGround event for advertising. Getting them to update their Facebook/Twitter/Websites about the event they would be playing at and re-directing their fans to the Tuborg website. This would utilise their fan base for Tuborg's MainGround event's benefit. Again this was very valuable feedback and is something we will amend when creating our portfolio books.

The feedback from these posters was very positive from the client. The pointers we were given as a team was to give a call of action on the posters, a website name, or facebook page consumers could go to for more information. This is something I completely agreed with. So when my partner and me begin making our portfolio books, this is something we will amend. The last pointer he made was about the headlines of the posters, he felt it wasn't necessary for the third poster 'Be part of it'. He thought that the other two had the right attitude and feel, but the last poster was trying too hard. With the event representing 'cool', we should be telling people about the event but have the kind of attitude of it'll still be good without you. This is pointer was something I could understand but we would be unsure of whether to change this or not, so deliberation on this pointer will be made when we create our portfolios.

Hard work does pay off.

On Friday 21st of January my partner and me had our final client meeting. It couldn't’t have gone better. After many sleepless nights and stress to get our campaign just right. We reaped the rewards. On our arrival at the agency we were informed that one of the clients Sam was caught up in a meeting so it just ran ahead with Dan. We sat down in the boardroom and began the presentation.
After showing the entire presentation we sat in anticipation waiting for our feedback. After what seemed a long pause he told us how well he thought the campaign worked, not only as a campaign but how it clearly answered what the brief asked. He gave us a few small pointers, which I completely agreed with. But as a whole it went extremely well. Even to the point that he offered a work placement opportunity and his help in putting us in contact with other top agencies in Newcastle. This felt like I had struck gold! This seems like the ‘big-break’ my partner and me have been looking for. Not only did he offer this but he also offered to help us tweak our campaign to make it ready to submit for the YCN awards.
Gaining a contact, that works in industry and seems very keen on helping us do well, is something we will cherish. I have found this module to be extremely helpful in moving our team forward, through helping us learn how industry works, encouraging us to boost our standards of work and allowing us to meet a client such as Dan, who could give us the tools in getting our foot in the door of an advertising agency. It just clears any doubts my partner and me had about how successful we could be.

Take a look at our final campaign. See what you think.

My New Years Resolution continues....

I returned to college this week, and to my delight was informed of an extension on the classes deadline. I now have until the 26/1/11 to hand in the work. But this fortune caused a slight dilemma with the client. Will they have dates free around this point and will they work alongside these new dates. Fortunately myself and my partner have been fortunate in working with two very approachable clients and they worked with us to now meet them on the 21/1/11.
So now with this extended deadline my partner and me wish to give the client more of a show. Make the extension worthwhile. So we have decided while we will present the posters, social networking site, packaging and event. We have decided to also film the viral. We may well have bitten off more than we can chew, but we will definitely try our hardest to get it all finished. I am truly enjoying the process but the perfectionist in me wants the end product to be on point for the client. Which I think is a good point, but will cause me many sleepless nights in days to come!

On another point I watched a very inspirational film called Howl. It is based on the book Howl by Allen Ginsberg (Above) and looks at the great works of the Beat Generation. The film showed how Ginsberg viewed life. Although at the time his poem was considered crude for the sake of it, it was proven through the court of law on October 3, 1957, Judge Clayton W. Horn ruled that the poem was not obscene, and "Howl" went on to become the most popular poem of the Beat Generation. A classic line from the poem, which tested society at this time was, "who let themselves be fucked in the ass by saintly motorcyclists, and screamed with joy". This hinted at homosexuality which was shunned at this time. I find it fascinating to learn and find out about creative pieces that pushed boundaries, as it is part of where society is today.

My New Years Resolution

As I never maintain or particularly choose a resolution for the new year, I figured I would this year. One that had potential to stand the test of time, unlike some fad diet or wasted box of nicotine patches. So I decided I would set myself the challenge that for years to come, I will read something everyday. This may sound very juvenile and simple. But I believe for myself it is a challenge, and one which I have decided to take.

As a very visual person I get myself caught up in the visual world, flicking through magazines, books, and the internet, always focusing on the images but never stopping to read the words. So as a student wishing to pursue a career in advertising as an Art Director I felt in order to appreciate and understand the true value of imagery and visual communication, I should stop to take the time to appreciate and understand the literary visual devices all around us. So hence my resolution to take time to read, I don't mean a simple sentence, but something with a little substance, or at least something which can let my creative brain run wild with. It is this 'exercising' of my creative brain which I believe can only better myself as a creative. So as a change I shall leave you with this poem, one which I have loved for sometime due to its sentimental value, but also for the fantastic literary skill used which creates the visual in my mind:

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.
